ELECTION DAY CHALLENGERS
Challengers are those nice folks you see when you go to the polls. Don't confuse them with the Board of Elections worker that verifies your voter registration and has you sign the book. Challengers have a completely different role to play in the process.
Beginning at 6AM when polls open and continuing on an hourly basis throughout the day until polls close at 8PM, Challengers are on duty to monitor voter integrity issues, turnout, and challenge voters that no longer reside in Oceanport and may attempt to vote illegally.
They also monitor voters who have requested an Absentee Ballot, and attempt to vote twice by appearing at the polls and voting again in the machine. Once the vote is cast in the machine, it can't be reversed.
This job is critically important!!
Did you know that Council President Joseph Irace’s first campaign was decided on Election Day by 1 vote? And that during a recount, an additional single vote was found? Did you know that 2 votes were cast by individuals who had moved from Oceanport to Ocean County? Did you know that 2 Provisional voters were turned away incorrectly, one returned to his old town and voted there, the other didn't get to vote at all?
This is why challengers are so important! If you can spare one hour or two, between the hours of 6am and 8pm on Election Day November 2nd, please volunteer for this important job!

PHONE BANKS
Phone banks operate in t!wo ways. The first is in the days leading up to Election Day, the second is on Election Day. If you're willing to make 30-50 phone calls to remind people to vote on Election Day and to encourage or persuade them to support the Best 4 Oceanport Team, this is where we need your help. SIGN LOCATIONS
Lawn Signs unfortunately are a necessary evil when it comes to Elections. They not only signal that your campaign is serious and committed, but that there is support among the residents for the candidates and that the message they are projecting is shared by a cross section of the community.
Lawn signs play another important role = Persuasion. Many neighbors will not share their political views and prefer to keep them private. When they are not close to an issue and haven't formed an opinion, they often rely on the opinion of people they trust. That person may be you. A lawn sign on your property says "I support Council President Joseph Irace " and his position on the future of Oceanport. Your neighbor who passes by each day views your support in a positive way, and your support for our team has an impact that can be felt on Election Day. If you can help please email us at the following address:LawnSigns@best4oceanport.net
The Oceanport Republicans have decided not to display lawn signs this year, but thank you for your support
HOST COMMITTEES
Can you get a group of your neighbors together on a weekend afternoon and host a "Coffee Talk"? This type of informal gathering is important to the campaign in that it allows us to speak with voters in an informal environment and hear from them first hand about the issues they care about. Often, going door to door, results in many knocks going unanswered and the opportunity to meet and speak with residents is lost in the campaign shuffle. A "Coffee Talk" allows us to meet your street, your friends, your family on their schedule and the opportunity to get their participation is a positive step in winning their vote on Election Day.
